welcome back. if you suffer from varicose veins, you maybe surprised to learn that this condition could lead--potentially--to other, more serious, health problems. dr. joseph jensen is here to share the causesand the treatment options that even can be covered by your insurance; that also may surprisesome people out there. it's good to have you, dr. jensen. it's good to be here. we like to talk about the root cause of issueslike this, so people know where we're coming from and, obviously, we know where we wantto go, which is a solution.

but what causes these varicose veins? well, it's a combination of your geneticsand your lifestyle. so, people are inherently--people have aninherent amount of elasticity in their veins. and because of lifestyle changes and hormonalchanges, your veins can stretch. and if you don't have elasticity in your veins, then your veins will stretch enough that the one-way valves in your veins no longer closeappropriately. once you've lost valvular function in yourveins, then your veins can't force blood up toward your heart. so those are where...that's where the serious...themore serious health complications can enter

the scene. right. it's a spectrum of the disease. so, it starts out with just...maybe unsightlyspider veins. sure. cosmetic...blue...bulges. but then you get bulging varicose veins thatstart to hurt, and then your pain progresses, and then--pretty soon--it's hard for you todo your job and you don't want to clean your house or take care of...it's hard to takecare of your kids.

we're seeing before and after pictures ofsome impressive results. now you see them...now you don't, sort ofa thing. how are your clients achieving these results? what treatment options are available? there are two primary treatments--in my mind--fortreating varicose veins. the first is endovenous ablation. endovenous ablation is the way we treat theinside veins that become incompetent because they lose their valvular function, and thenthat leads to the outward manifestation of bulging varicose veins, and swelling, andvenous ulcers, and all those other things.

but it starts out with those inside veinsbecoming incompetent. we don't really "fix" bad veins--we fix yourvein problems by eliminating bad veins. so endovenous ablation is a way of cauterizingyour vein from the inside. it's done in the office; a patient doesn'teven have to be sedated--just with a local anesthetic. it's not painless, because i have to numbup spots in your legs, but it's about as bad as being pinched several times. it's pretty easy. it's tolerable...tolerable.

does insurance cover this treatment? it does. which...are people surprised to learn that? are patients surprised? a lot of people are. the main thing that people are surprised about, and hopefully people take from this spot, is that veins can really, really affect yourlife--bad veins. and fixing them is really, really easy. it's as simple as having a few needle-pokesin the office; you come in, you lay down on

my chair, you smile, we chit-chat, you listento great music, we crack some jokes--before you know it, it's over with--and you leaveme and go about your day. there's not really down time; there's notreally pain--i don't prescribe pain medicine to people, because no one ever asks for it. it's simple; and it's actually silly to livewith this problem when it's so simple to fix it. how can people set up an appointment? the best way is just to go to my website:drjosephjensen.com and they can find my number. drjosephjensen.com jokes. music.

no more veins. it does sound simple enough. simple. thank you so much.
